In Azerbaijan, the authorities often employ a wide range of administrative, financial, legal and arbitrary measures against traditional broadcast media. In a period that has coincided with this government crackdown on more traditional broadcast and print media outlets, the country’s internet usage has exploded. Aware of how powerful online tools can be, the government is showing signs that tighter restrictions on internet use and content are on the horizon.
