Maris served as a researcher-writer for the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) for its paper on Communications Surveillance in 2015 – her first engagement in the field of ICT and privacy.
Given her background in community development, her previous research papers focused on government socialized housing projects for informal settlers.
She worked for the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for three (3) years under the Alternative Housing and People’s Plan Fund Program. As a Project Development Officer, she worked with several local government units, civil society organizations and other international and local institutions.
Currently, she is a Development Management Officer III under the Privacy Policy Office of the National Privacy Commission and is finishing her master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of the Philippines.
