Francis Monyango is a technology law and policy researcher based in Nairobi. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and an IAPP-certified information privacy professional (CIPP/E) and manager (CIPM). He has experience in internet governance and digital rights with a special interest in privacy and data protection. He has experience in public affairs and government relations having served as a Public Policy Manager at Oxygene MCL where he also doubled up as the Data Protection Officer. He has in the past been appointed by the Communication Authority of Kenya to serve as the Chair of the Privacy and Security Technical Working Group that drafted the Kenyan Broadband Strategy 2018 - 2023.
Monyango was an ICANN 59 Next Gen fellow and he presented at a side event that took place at the 62nd Africa Commission Nouakchott meeting. He has also organised sessions and spoken on privacy in Kenya at RightsCon Toronto University of Toronto's CLSI and IFF 5 in Valencia. His research and articles have been published on platforms such as GIS Watch 2019, Data
Guidance, Data Protection Leader, and GenderIT among many others.
