Nicolás Echániz, president of AlterMundi, has been involved in Community Networks for the past 15 years. He co-designed the multi-radio mesh network model that AlterMundi shares with communities willing to build their own communications infrastructure. He co-designed the LibreMesh firmware, the Librenet6 mesh tunel broker and the LibreMap federated mapping tool. Nicolás is project manager for the ongoing LibreRouter project funded by FRIDA (LANCIC), FIRE (Afrinic) and the Internet Society. He is project leader for the Descentralized Culture Repository (funded by APC). He co-founded the Dynamic Coalition on Community Connectivity (DC3). He is the current Chair of the Internet Society Community Networks Special Interest Group (CNSIG). He is a regular speaker in connectivity-related events and he has authored numerous articles on Community Networks on printed as well as online media.
