Dércio Tsandzana is a Mozambican Ph.D. in Political Science (Sciences Po, France). He holds an MA in Political Science at the same University and has been working on digital rights in Mozambique, including on-line activism for Global Voices International. His Ph.D. research examines the role of social media in the youth political participation in Mozambique. Tsandzana also undertook research work focusing on youth political participation, digital rights and data privacy with the Freedom House, Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA), the Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA), Paradigm Initiative (PIN) and the African Declaration on Internet Rights and Freedoms. Among other publications, he has published ‘The political participation of youth in Mozambique’s 2019 general elections’ (Journal of African Elections, 2022) and ‘Internet social networks as a juvenile escapism in the political urban space in Mozambique’ (Cadernos de Estudos Africanos, 2020).
