Connor Kanso is a research assistant and project coordinator at the American University of Beirut-Nature Conservation Center (AUB-NCC). He believes in taking community-led approaches to addressing our most complex environmental threats. At AUB-NCC, Connor is responsible for the Solid Waste Awareness and Action (SAWA) Program, a solid waste awareness and reduction program designed for primary and secondary schools in Lebanon. Since 2019, the SAWA program has reached over 4,000 students; now, Connor is working making the course content into a free virtual program available online in Arabic, English, and French.
Connor holds a B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), with an interdisciplinary focus on the environment and sustainability. During his studies, Connor also worked for UT Austin (UT) as a zero-waste coordinator for the university’s Resource Recovery Program. After graduating, he worked as a freelance environmental consultant at FunSize where he raised awareness on transitioning to a zero- waste office, and reducing waste at home. He has worked for AUB-NCC since 2019.
