Pavel P Antonov is a researcher of new media, journalism and environmental change at the Open University, UK. Antonov’s current research seeks to understand how neoliberal norms arrive into the post-socialist newsrooms; and how journalists engage with them in their private and professional lives.
Antonov is a co-founder and Member of the Board of BlueLink.net – the Bulgarian civil society electronic information network (www.bluelink.net). As BlueLink's representative (1999 - 2009) Antonov contributed to the Information Technology for Environmental Sustainability initiative of the Association for Progressive Communications.
Antonov has worked as a journalist and managed media and communications projects since 1994. He is the author of articles, documentaries and analyses on the state of environment and civil society in Central and Eastern Europe, and a frequent trainer to environmental journalists, civil society and state officials.
In 2001 - 2008 Antonov was the editor of Green Horizon, the magazine of the Regional Environmental Center for CEE. Antonov has worked as a communications and media consultant for, among others, Bankwatch, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; the World Bank; the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe; UNDP/GEF’s Danube River Project and Green House Gas Inventories Support projects.
Antonov is the former Editor in Chief of Information Programmes at Nova - the first Bulgarian private TV channel, where he started his journalistic career as a news reporter and host of Sofia's Fairytales - a creative programme on diversity and tolerance. Antonov has graduated from the Journalism Faculty of the Sofia University, and specialized environmental sciences and policy at the Central European University in Budapest.
